Many people consider New Year’s Eve a significant part of their lives. Apart from the lively merriments, extravagant firework displays and free-flowing food and drinks, it symbolises new beginnings. Cultures may differ in celebrations but there seems to be one common theme: a fresh start. People generally want a clean slate in facing an entirely new year; for some, even before the year ends. This is a great opportunity to reflect on failures, mend quarrels, pay off debts, and even do some thorough cleaning.
New Year’s Eve celebrations need not be expensive
The month of December is quite costly because of the number of Christmas parties to attend and presents to buy. For New Year’s Eve, why not go somewhere inexpensive, even free? Before going out, bring your brollies, macs and other rain gear as weather forecasts say it’s going to be rainy. London’s tube will be free from 11:45 pm to 4:30. It will be a perfect time to go around England’s capital and visit places you’ve never gone to.
Instead of paying for expensive tickets to see the fireworks, you can spend £10 or less. However, these places can be congested so another great option is finding the perfect spots away from the crowd. When you are in London, a trick is making sure you have a great view of the London Eye. Those who are willing to spend for a wonderful view may go to South Bank, Victoria Embankment, Waterloo Bridge and Westminster Bridge. On the other hand, you can stay right outside the ticketed areas like the Bank and Mansion House. Wouldn’t a riverside spot to watch the sparkly sky just be awesome? Other prime areas near the paid areas are the Millennium Bridge and Southwark Bridge.
You may also see the colourful spectacles from St. Paul’s Cathedral. Some prefer to celebrate in pubs in the area and go out on the stroke of midnight. Those who want to avoid crowds may go to Tower Bridge, Lambeth Bridge, Primrose Hill, Parliament Hill and Vauxhall Bridge. They can be far from the fireworks but they will give you a great night view of London.
Enjoy Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, which has no entrance fees. It will be open until 2nd January so it can also be a great New Year’s excursion with your family. You can go ice skating, watch Christmas shows, ride the observation wheel and shop at the huge market.
