UCAS Extra Deadline
For UCAS applicants who still do not hold any offers, please take note that today, 4th July is the last day to apply using UCAS Extra. The Extra option allows you to apply for other courses with vacancies, which can be done one course at a time.
In order for you to be eligible, you must have already made five choices and received decisions from them but you were not accepted, you have declined the offers or you have canceled your application because you have not received any offers. To know if this option is available to you, immediately check your Track option. There should be an “Add Extra choice” button. As soon as you receive an offer via Extra, there will be a deadline date for your reply. If you fail respond on time, this offer will automatically be marked as declined.
If you are interested in a certain course from a particular university but it is not listed in Extra, do not lose hope. Ring the uni and enquire if they will be happy to open the course in Extra for you. UCAS does not have any authority to do this on yourbehalf. Once they agree to accommodate you, you may add the choice through Track.
Colleges and universities are encouraged to make decisions within 21 days. However, there are some that require more time. In general, the Extra choice button automatically becomes active after 21 days and it is up to you to make a decision if you will wait for the institution or replace it with another choice. You have to be aware that as soon as you replace your choice, you won’t be able to receive any decisions from the previous one that you were waiting for.
Clearing Opens
If you do not get any offers in Extra, you can still make use of the UCAS Clearing service. 5th July is the official day the course vacancies of unis and colleges appear in the search tool. The last day to add Clearing choices will be on 20th October.
It is important to regularly check the clearing vacancies since institutions post updates from time to time. There is no need for you to panic if you do not find the course you want especially if you your exam results are fine and you have flexibility in terms of subject and location. You may only add one choice at a time but if the institution does not confirm a place for you, you will be allowed to add another one.
As soon as you send your application letter with an impressive Personal Statement, you will receive an email with your Clearing number. Ask for advice from your school’s careers office so you will be guided on the alternative courses and subjects you make take up. Search through all the vacancies and ring universities and colleges you are interested in. After a verbal offer, add the course in Track. You will only be allowed to do so if the status says ‘Clearing has started’ or ‘You are in Clearing.’ If Track doesn’t indicate any of these, it can be because your status has not been updated yet. Contact the colleges and unis you have previously applied for as they might still be considering you.
